The National Legion Foundation (NLF) presents a special bursary to Amelia Monteith

August 15th 2022
On Friday, August 12th, members of the Navy League of Canada's National Office had the opportunity to tour the RMC training site where approximately 28 sea cadets conduct their sail training. The visit also included an opportunity to recognize the 2021 Sea Cadet of the Year, Amelia Monteith from RCSCC Illustrious (Brampton,ON) with a special presentation by the Legion National Foundation (LNF).

The presentation served as an opportunity for the LNF to present a $2,500 bursary to Amelia for her 1st year studies at McMaster University which she will be starting in September. The LNF has made a five-year commitment to the Navy League of Canada to assist Sea Cadets with their Post-Secondary Studies. Amelia is the first recipient of this special bursary. We had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. George O’Dair (Director – Legion National Foundation) to make the presentation.

With the assistance of Ontario Division and the Branch, we were able to invite Amelia’s Parents and two brothers to the event and surprise her. In order to make the presentation a little more memorable, the Commandant and CWO of the Royal Military College – Commodore Josée Kurtz (former Sea Cadet) and CWO Lucie Alain (former Army Cadet) assisted with the presentation; the Trenton CTC Commanding Officer and Cadet Chief Warrant Officer (Cdr Walter Dermott and WO1 Neal Mahadeo) were also on-hand for the presentation.

Special thanks to Shelby Sutherland and Sam Laprade from the Legion National Foundation for their assistance in coordinating the cheque presentation.
Bravo Zulu!!!
