NAVY LEAGUE OF CANADA – Officer & adult volunteer code of conduct
PURPOSE
This Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for Navy League Officers, instructors and adult volunteers working within the mandate of the Navy League of Canada, supporting Navy League Cadets, while volunteering with adults and volunteers of the League.
All adult members are expected to uphold a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment always, treating everyone with dignity and integrity while honoring the values of the Navy League of Canada
CORE PRINCIPLES
- Safety First: Protect the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of cadets.
- Respect and Dignity: Treat all individuals fairly, courteously, and without discrimination.
- Integrity and Accountability: Act with honour, professionalism, and transparency.
- Inclusivity: Ensure every cadet feels welcome, valued, and supported.
STANDARDS OF CONDUCT
1. Safeguarding Youth- Provide an environment free from harassment, bullying, or abuse.
- Review and follow child protection laws and organizational safeguarding policies.
- Complete the Prevent It! Training workshop through Little Warriors or The Navy League of Canada.
- Engage with youth in ways that are safe, age‑appropriate, and aligned with organizational standards.
- Uphold a culture of respect, inclusion, and accountability in all adult‑to‑adult relationships.
- Communicate with cadets only through approved, transparent channels.
- Avoid favouritism, secrecy, or personal relationships that compromise trust.
- Treat everyone with courtesy, dignity, and respect, fostering a positive environment for youth and volunteers.
- Model positive behaviour, teamwork, and discipline.
- Respect privacy and confidentiality of cadets, families, and volunteers.
- Refrain from words, actions, or online activity that disrespects others or harms the reputation of the Navy League of Canada.
- Adhere to health, safety and supervision requirements during all activities.
- Report hazards, misconduct, or breaches of this Code promptly.
- Abstain from alcohol, drugs, or impairment in advance of and/or during the supervision of cadets.
- Honour commitments and responsibilities entrusted to you.
- Accept feedback and cooperate with investigations or reviews of conduct.
- Recognize that breaches may result in disciplinary action or dismissal.
